Townshend Updates

  • Upcoming Events
Winter Sports begins January 9th.  Make sure all payments for winter sports have been made and all your paperwork is in.  Remember, if you are driving, Heidi needs a copy of your current insurance policy to keep on file.  The minimum insurance for you to drive is a $100,000/$300,000 policy.

The WRMED Board adopted their policy for School Choice at their November 12th board meeting.  School Choice is for students entering grades K through 5 and will be limited to the amount of available space in each building and classroom.  The window for parents to apply for school choice between NewBrook, Townshend and Jamaica is open and will be closed at 4pm on Friday, December 21st.  Applications for school choice can be picked up at NewBrook School, Townshend School and Jamaica School.  Families interested in school choice are encouraged to visit and tour the school they are interested in and gather as much information together as possible before completing the application.  If you have multiple children you only need to fill out one application unless you want your children to go to different schools.  Please feel free to call the school and speak with Heidi if you have any questions about School Choice.

TES L'after afterschool programs, Session 2 ends on December 20th. Registration forms for Session 3 are being sent home on December 13th.  Session 3 programs begin on Monday, January 14th.

Craft Day organized by School Club will be held on the morning of Tuesday, December 18th.  Donations of materials are needed and volunteers to help on the 18th are needed.
Popcorn Sale organized by the teachers will be held on the afternoon of Tuesday, December 18th.

The Holiday Breakfast for all students at school will be held on Thursday, December 20th.

Reminder that if you hope to be a volunteer for any sports activity, winter sports, field trip or event then make sure you have completed the paperwork for background checks and have had your fingerprinting done.  If you have not gone through this process you will be unable to volunteer/chaperone.  You are not even allowed to transport just your child.  Please see Heidi for the paperwork to start this process immediately if you are interested.  It takes approximately 8 weeks to get fingerprint results back.

Reminder:  In case of bad weather, we will be using an automated calling system to let families know that school is canceled.  Please make sure we have your current phone number for this telephone call.  However, if your phone is not working or if you haven’t received a phone call but are unsure whether there is school, the following local radio stations also carry school cancellations:  WYRY, WKVT, WTSA, WKNE.  There is no guarantee that any television stations will carry the cancellation information.
